Midhurst Visitors Guide

Midhurst is a market town in the Chichester district of West Sussex. Midhurst is situated on the River Rother and is home to the ruin of the Tudor Cowdray House and the stately Victorian Cowdray Park (famous for holding polo matches which attract teams from across the UK and Europe). Country Life magazine has rated Midhurst the second best place to live in England.

Midhurst is at the junction of the A272 and A286, and has a number of bus services provided by Stagecoach. Midhurst does not have a railway station, the nearest railway stations being Petersfield to the West, Chichester to the South and Pulborough to the East.

Midhurst is home to the headquarters of the South Downs National Park Authority and the home of the South Downs National Park Visitor Centre.

A large number of houses in the town historically belong to the Cowdray estate. These houses are recognisable by their bright yellow woodwork and doors.

Midhurst retains a good number of independent retailers. There are a number of pubs and restaurants, some of which including the Angel Hotel, offer overnight accommodation.
