Petworth Visitors Guide

Petworth is a small town in West Sussex. Petworth is located at the junction of the A272 east-west road and the A283 road from Milford (Surrey) to Shoreham-by-Sea. The A285 connects Petworth with Chichester.

Petworth does not have a railway station. The nearest railway station is at Pulborough. There are a number of bus services serving Petworth.

Petworth is mentioned in Domesday Book. Petworth is probably best known as the location of the stately home Petworth House, the grounds of which (known as Petworth Park) are the work of Capability Brown. The House and its grounds are now owned and maintained by the National Trust.

Petworth Cottage Museum in the High Street, is a museum of domestic life for poor estate workers in the town in about 1910.

Petworth has a number of independent retailers, with shops to be found in many of its narrow streets.

Petworth has a number of pubs, some of which offer overnight accommodation.

Petworth is twinned with Ranville in France, and San Quirico d'Orcia in Italy.
